Recently, the local community came together to make an impactful difference, completing a 5K charity walk in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland (BCI). Liza Sagawn Sales, Manager of Curves Knocklyon comments “With a target of €5,000, we’re thrilled to announce that we not only met this goal but surpassed it, raising over €7,000 for this vital cause. This achievement underscores the strength of collective action, and the dedication of individuals committed to fighting breast cancer”.
Breast cancer touches the lives of countless individuals, and Breast Cancer Ireland is at the forefront of research and support for those affected. By coming together for this charity walk, participants and supporters united to make a meaningful impact, showing that every step taken, and every euro raised can contribute to a world free from breast cancer. The walk was held on Saturday 26th October at 1:00pm at Dodder Valley Park, and participants of all ages and backgrounds joined forces, creating a sea of pink and filling the route with smiles, laughter, and a shared sense of purpose. From individuals walking to honour loved ones to groups walking in solidarity, the event became a powerful testament to community resilience and compassion.
Initially, they initially aimed to raise €3,000, a target that would support BCI’s mission to advance research, education, and patient support. Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of the community, they exceeded our goal! The funds raised will go directly to BCI’s research programs, enhancing early detection methods, advancing treatment options, and providing essential support resources for patients and their families.
Every euro raised is more than just a number; it represents hope, support, and progress. With the funds raised:
- Accelerated Research: Breast Cancer Ireland can continue to fund cutting-edge research initiatives. This includes innovative clinical trials, genetic testing, and personalized treatment protocols that offer patients improved outcomes and a higher quality of life.
- Enhanced Education and Awareness: BCI’s education programs aim to increase breast cancer awareness, particularly for early detection. Knowledge is a powerful tool, and through awareness campaigns, BCI can empower people with information that could save lives.
- Support for Patients and Families: Funds also contribute to BCI’s support programs, providing resources for patients and families navigating the challenges of breast cancer treatment and recovery.
This event’s success would not have been possible without the support of everyone involved. A huge thank you goes to our walkers, sponsors, volunteers, and donors. Your dedication, generosity, and unwavering support have made a tangible impact in the fight against breast cancer. The journey doesn’t end with this 5K walk. With the momentum they’ve built, they’re excited to continue efforts to support Breast Cancer Ireland. The goal is to maintain this community spirit, organizing more events, sharing stories of hope, and keeping breast cancer research and awareness at the forefront.
Liza added “Though this 5K walk may be over, the fight against breast cancer continues. Let’s keep supporting BCI’s vital work, whether through future events, spreading awareness, or simply lending a helping hand to those in need. Together, we are stronger, and with each step we take, we are closer to a future where breast cancer no longer impacts lives.Thank you once again for being a part of this incredible journey. Here’s to many more events, and here’s to a world free of breast cancer” .
