The play Trawled performing on September 23rd in the Tallaght Theatre (old cuckoo’s nest) is a jaw dropping true story. Starting as an adventure, it quickly turns dramatically when the protagonist is plunged into unforeseen trials, testing his very limits of survival. This is an exuberant story of adventure, crisis and brutality culminating in an unforgettable moment of redemptive grace.
Trawled is a one man show written, produced, and acted by Ballyboden man Eoin Ryan. Eoin published the original story as a book in 2019 after his time working on a prawn trawler off the coast of Australia in 1999. In 2022 he performed in TEDx Wexford, the feedback of which gave him the inspiration and the validation to expand the talk into the one man play.
‘Having never done anything in theatre before, I still felt compelled to bring this play to life. My hope is that once you experience Trawled – you’ll understand why’ says Ryan not wishing to give too many surprises away.
Due to the content and subject matter of the play it comes with an over 16’s recommendation. The audience will be taken into a rarely seen world of hard labour and even harder fishermen. Drinking, fighting, storms and hungry sharks are part of everyday life. What begins as an adventure, degenerates quickly into a gripping story to stay alive.
The story contains some important life lessons which might influence people to seek a different path in life. ‘I believe that anyone struggling in life could benefit from the way I dealt with the challenges I encountered. They might see themselves in my struggle’ says Ryan.
Trawled will take you on an 85 minute non-stop rollercoaster on Saturday September 23rd. Tickets are on sale from the website www.ticketco.events/ie/ie
