Train Station closed nearly 20 years must reopen

Trevor Gilligan Cloverhill station

Local Councillor Trevor Gilligan recently attended the opening of the Kishoge Train Station and commented “My thanks to Minster James Lawless for officially opening the Kishoge station. The station is a welcome addition to the area. Whilst the station is serviced by 50 car spaces, it is simply not enough to service the existing residents in the area”.

He added “More feeder buses are needed if we really want to alleviate traffic in the area. Nearly 20 years ago, Irish Rail closed down Cloverhill Station. I was a frequent user of this service. Clondalkin to Heuston station in 10 minutes, even less sometimes. Then, nearly 20 years ago, it was closed down. Left to ruin. Yet development ploughed ahead and the population in the Cloverhill Road area has grown massively. Cloverhill road has huge traffic congestion. That’s before you get near Clondalkin Village. A station at Cloverhill road could service around 2K-4K residents in the immediate vicinity”.
