The return of construction across the country welcomed

Darragh O’Brien TD has said that the reopening of construction sites across the country is welcome.

Deputy O’Brien said: “The first stage of reopening the economy began this week, and the opening of construction sites across the country is good news. I would like to thank everyone in the construction sector who has returned to work and is doing so in a safe environment.

“We have people back at work in a number of sectors and the country will welcome the work being done on housing developments across the country by construction workers.

“Construction has resumed on social housing projects which will ensure local authorities can deliver accommodation for people currently in emergency accommodation or at risk of homelessness. It is important that workers are protected during their work and have the appropriate equipment supplied to them to make sure proper social distancing can take place.

“I would like employers to make sure the appropriate measures are being taken to keep everyone safe. We know if businesses breach health and safety regulation then they may be shut down and we do not want to see this happen. We need to band together now and start to rebuild the country at a steady and safe pace,” concluded Deputy O’Brien.
