Fianna Fáil candidate in the upcoming local elections Lynda Prendergast has said it was a great pleasure to welcome leader of Fianna Fáil and Tánaiste Micheál Martin to Citywest. Ms Prendergast, who has extensive experience in campaigning for improved amenities, safer communities and a public transport system that delivers said Tánaiste Micheál Martin’s visit to the area signalled a strong statement that concerns of local residents’ matter to Fianna Fáil.
On the campaign trail Tánaiste Micheál Martin and Ms Prendergast engaged in meaningful discussions with residents who raised the evolving landscape of the community and the need for corresponding infrastructure and amenities. Lynda discussed with Tánaiste Micheál Martin the need for state investment in Citywest to allow for the provision of sports and leisure amenities in the area. She said, “The expansion of our area requires proper infrastructure to maintain a good quality of life and ease traffic congestion. This means we need better roads, parks, public services, and transportation options to keep up with our community’s growth and ensure everyone can enjoy a high standard of living.”
Lynda also highlighted to Mr. Martin, the many concerns of residents around the Tallaght area of illegal dumping which has undoubtedly become a huge problem across all areas of the community. “New regulations have been introduced that allow local authorities to use CCTV and drones. If elected in June, I will be requesting that South Dublin County Council use these new measures to tackle the issue of illegal dumping.”
Furthermore, Lynda remains steadfast in her resolve to address the misuse of scramblers and quad bikes, which are causing havoc in many of our estates and parks.
“In Government, Fianna Fáil introduced crucial legislation to address the rampant misuse of scrambler bikes in our communities which empowered Gardaí to seize and detain quad bikes and scramblers when used unlawfully, or in an anti-social manner, especially in public parks and green spaces. “We have seen operations undertaken by our local Gardaí, which so far have yielded between 30-40 scramblers, scooters & electric bikes which have been confiscated as they were used in an anti-social manner. With the backing this legislative reform, I am determined, alongside local Fianna Fáil TD John Lahart, to continue to tackle this issue head on, eradicating the dangers associated with scrambler misuse and fostering safer communities for all.”
The local election candidate for Citywest and Tallaght South concluded by saying she is committed to championing these issues and many more if elected in June. “With your support, I will work tirelessly to ensure our community receives the attention and resources it deserves, ” she said.
