Local Councillor, Charlie O’Connor, has welcomed news regarding the proposed re-opening of the Supervalu Supermarket in Fortunestown Shopping Centre and said that residents in Springfield and the wider area are looking forward to the formal announcement of the plans in that regard.
*”The closure of the Supervalu Supermarket following a fire caused much upset and distress in my local community and I do know that there was much sympathy for owner Alan Jordan and his staff. Indeed, Alan drew much praise for his efforts at the time in ensuring that the Post Office re-opened as quickly as possible.”*
Charlie O’Connor added that “*I know from my regular contact with local management that there are plans to erect hoarding on the site within the next week and a formal announcement is expected to confirm that the Supervalu Supermarket will re-open again in November.”*
He also added that “*As an elected representative, living in Springfield, I am aware of the gratitude of my community for the efforts of the staff of the nearby Centra Supermarket in Alderwood/Maplewood, who have done a tremendous job, sometimes under difficult circumstances, to cater for the local community. Much praise has been expressed to Manager, Sarah Leonard
and her hard working, friendly team for their endeavors in that regard. **We now look forward to further developments in the matter and I know that my
community will continue to follow the progress in a positive way.”*
