Its official, dad jokes are funny. That’s according to a new survey by Ireland’s leading gift card company One4all. The survey of 1,720 people finds that 72% of us get a giggle out of a dad joke but 63% of us pretend not to like them! Three quarters of fathers admit to telling dad jokes with a quarter saying they do so to cheer their children up and one in five say they are subjected to a dad joke on a weekly basis.
The survey examining the dad joke phenomenon was carried out to launch One4all’s annual Shop4Giggles week in aid of the Children’s Health Foundation, a foundation supporting sick children and their families in Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres in Crumlin, Temple Street, Connolly and Tallaght. Taking place from Saturday, 10th September – Sunday, 18th September, when you spend a One4all Gift Card or One4all Digital Gift Card with any of One4all’s 11,000 accepting retail partners in-store or participating online partners, One4all will donate 50c to the Giggle Fund at Children’s Health Foundation. The Giggle Fund is dedicated to bringing joy to the patients at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin, Temple Street, Connolly and Tallaght, and to brightening their lives, one giggle at a time.
Additionally, five of One4all’s retail partners, Marks & Spencer, Argos, River Island, Currys and New Look have pledged to donate an additional 50c, bringing the total to €1 every time a One4all is spent with them, in-store or online.
Launching this year’s Shop4Giggles campaign, Dad-of-two and TV presenter Ray Foley said: “As a proud teller of dad jokes, I am delighted to see that most of us get a giggle out of them although I am not sure my kids would agree! When One4all approached me to be part of this campaign, I instantly said yes as I love the idea behind it. Being in hospital is never easy, especially when you are a child. The Giggle Fund was set up to bring a little joy and fun to the patients as it is important that there’s an outlet for children to have some fun during a hospital stay. The message is simple, spend your One4all Gift Card during the 10th -18th September and you can help us raise vital funds to help brighten up a child’s day.”
Ruth Guy, Director of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications at Children’s Health Foundation said: “We are so thrilled to be working side-by-side with our friends in One4all once again this September. This year is even more special as One4all’s exciting ‘Shop4Giggles’ campaign will, for the first time, be raising vital funds to support sick children in Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin, Temple Street, Tallaght and Connolly. On behalf of all of us in Children’s Health Foundation, as well as the frontline staff, patients and families in Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres, we’d like to thank One4all, its retail partners and wonderful customers around the country for making this campaign possible and for supporting sick children when they need it most, helping to bring big smiles to little faces.”
