On the 25th of March 2021, the Save The Hellfire Massy Residents Association will celebrate tree week by hosting a free event ‘Let’s Talk About Our Trees’. The online event will have guest speakers Éanna Ní Lamhna and Michael Fewer.
Éanna Ní Lamhna is currently president of the Tree Council of Ireland. She is very aware of the absolute importance of our Irish woodlands. During her talk she will outline the current situation for our woodlands. She will explain what is meant by Native tree species and the important role they play in maintaining biodiversity. She will also emphasise the importance of all tree species in removing carbon dioxide from the air to combat climate change and will explain how conifers, which grow all the year round, do this at twice the rate deciduous trees do. Trees have always been important in ancient Ireland and have much folklore attached to them which she will touch on too – in her inimitable breakneck humorous fashion.
Michael Fewer is an architect by profession and he combined a successful architectural practice with an academic post for many years until he changed direction in 2000 to spend more time writing and travelling. Michael has a wide range of interests that he likes to write about, including history, the environment, landscape, travel and walking and he particularly enjoys exploring wilderness areas on foot. In his latest book, A Natural Year Michael delights at the startling beauty and extraordinary complexity of the natural world through the tranquil rhythms of the passing seasons.
Tickets to this event are free but limited, please ensure you register on time. You will receive an email with your invitation to attend on the day.
