S6 & S8 bus services undermining confidence in public transport

Sean Crowe

TD for Dublin South West Seán Crowe has said that the lack of reliability of the S6 and S8 bus routes that serve local areas in Tallaght and Kingswood is simply not up to the standard required and has written to the Minister for Transport asking him to take immediate action to remedy the matter.

Teachta Crowe said “I have received numerous complaints from members of the public about the reliability and punctuality of the S6 and S8 bus routes that serve the Tallaght and Kingswood areas across to Blackrock and Dún Laoghaire. Buses arriving late or not at all and buses being cancelled when they are supposedly enroute are the primary complaints. “This is simply not good enough and is creating untold problems from people accessing work, education, childcare, just going about their everyday lives.

“There will be teething problems with BusConnects, but we have to be sure that where we hand over routes to private operators that they are in a position to provide a reliable service. Anything else is unacceptable and only erodes confidence in public transport at a time when we are trying to get people to trust it and leave their cars at home.

“I have written to the new Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien highlighting the real life difficulties that people are having and asking what action he will be taking to ensure that people can rely on a bus service that they know will get them to work or their children to school.”
