A public consultation has opened on plans to improve pedestrian safety at the N7 bridge connecting Rathcoole and Newcastle. The plans, which are a collaboration between South Dublin County Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and AtkinsRealis Consulting Engineers, will see a signalized pedestrian crossing installed on the eastbound off ramp of junction 4, which will allow users of the 125 bus, to walk safely to and from Rathcoole Village.
Cllr Eoin Ó Broin, Social Democrats councillor for Rathcoole, Newcastle, Clondalkin and surrounding areas, welcomed the development, saying: “I’m pleased to see these plans. Pedestrian safety at this location has been a serious concern, and it’s crucial that we make our roads safer for everyone. I commend my Social Democrat colleague Lynn Tierney who raised the issue with TII some months ago.”
Cllr Ó Broin urged residents to engage in the consultation process which is open until October 3rd: “I encourage everyone to visit the South Dublin consultations portal (consult.sdublincoco.ie) and share their views. Public input is essential to ensure these plans work for the community.” In a briefing to local councillors, staff from SDCC and AtkinsRealis suggested that an additional crossing that would allow safe access to Commercials Hurling Club and on to Greenogue and Newcastle should be a future development.
