Former Councillor, Charlie O’Connor, has called on the community to become involved in protecting the bus service to Tallaght West estates. He was speaking following a meeting of the Tallaght Transport Forum which had heard of 16 incidents involving Dublin Bus in August. The Tallaght Transport Forum meets monthly and is attended by Tallaght Gardai, management and unions of Dublin Bus, Go Ahead Ireland management, management of Luas, South Dublin County Council staff, community and political representatives, Tallaght youth workers and Foroige.
The incidents involving Dublin Bus services covered Blessington Road, Brookfield, Cheeverstown, Fortunestown Lane, Jobstown, Killinarden, Kiltalown, MacUilliam and Tallaght Village. Among the incidents reported on the Forum report were anti social behavior, fireworks and stone throwing at the buses.
At the meeting, Charlie O’Connor who is a long time community rep on the Tallaght Transport Forum praised the endeavors of Tallaght Gardai in supporting the transport services. He said that everything possible must continue to be done to protect and preserve the services, particularly the Dublin Bus services which had been the subject of the 16 incidents in the month. He added that the local community had a clear role to play as many of the incidents involved children. Charlie O’Connor also said that contact with the local schools was so important in that regard.
