Fianna Fáil general election candidate for Dublin Mid-West, Cllr. Shane Moynihan, has warmly welcomed a recent announcement of a new school for Lucan. Griffeen Community College in Lucan was recently given the green light by Minister for Education Norma Foley TD for enabling work to start immediately on its 1,000 pupil post primary school, which will also have four dedicated classrooms for children with special educational needs.
Speaking in Lucan after the announcement, Cllr. Moynihan said: “I’m thrilled to deliver this news to the people of Lucan and surrounding areas. This is a project that I have been working on very closely with staff, parents and the Minister for quite some time now.
“It is no more than what the students, staff and community deserve. This school will be state of the art with modern facilities to help cater for the growing population due to significant rollout of housing developments.
“I want to congratulate the staff and the Parents Association for their tenacity and dedication to this project and also thank my colleague, Minister Norma Foley TD, who has kept me up to date with this all the way” concluded Moynihan.
The new school will incorporate renewable systems that include heat pump technologies for heating and also solar panels. It will also incorporate Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems which represents the Department’s ongoing response to the climate action plan. In total, around €5 billion has been spent during the government’s term in office with around 800 school building projects completed and 300 other projects are under construction.
