Over 220 sports clubs across Ireland are eligible to apply for funding to install new EV Chargers on their grounds for their members and visitors, a Fine Gael Minister has said.
Minister for Business, Employment and Retail and local TD Emer Higgins said that clubs ranging from golf to GAA have been deemed eligible to progress to the delivery phase of the Shared Island Sports Club EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme.
“I am delighted to see that Lucan United and Lucan Sarsfield GAA has progressed to the next round of this scheme. “The scheme was open to all sports clubs associated with recognised national governing bodies. These Lucan clubs are now eligible to move to the next stage in the process. “The eligible clubs will be able to draw down funding for the installation of electric vehicle charging in their club grounds.
“This is a great step towards increasing our public EV chargers in local communities across Ireland and offers the potential for clubs to generate income from commercially attractive sites. “It is essential that EV chargers are available throughout communities, so whether you’re dropping off the kids, watching a match, or going for a round of golf, people can now charge their EV while going about their daily lives.
“Our sports clubs are at the heart of our community, so it’s great to see the positive impact they are having in Lucan by taking part in this scheme. “I look forward to seeing this progress to the next phase and the delivery of this project now over the coming months, concluded Higgins
