Cllr. Charlie O’Connor has said the recent re-opening of leading supermarket chain, Lidl on Fortunestown Lane is hugely welcomed in the area.
He said, “Lidl first opened its store on Fortunestown Lane over 11 years ago and when the outlet was forced to close down earlier this year there was a huge degree of public upset.
“As we know, the building was extensively damaged during looting carried out by a select few who are now being dealt with by Gardaí. It’s important to point out that throughout the time the store was closed there was great support in our community for the staff that were employed there. “The recent re-opening of the reconstructed Lidl store on Fortunestown Lane is very much seen as a boost for the area following a difficult number of months.
“The dreadful actions of those in March did not represent the residents of the greater Tallaght region. The fact that Lidl made the welcome decision to re-open at the same site underscores the fact that there are wonderful, decent people living in our area. “It was clear from that the events that were held to re-open the store, there is huge joy that Lidl are once again open for business. I commend all those who made the re-opening possible and hope those employed here have many enjoyable years of employment ahead, ” he concluded.
