Recently LauraLynn Children’s Hospice launched a campaign to thank the everyday heroes who helped Ireland’s only dedicated children’s hospice to deliver essential services to children with life-limiting conditions and their families throughout Ireland in 2019. In 2019, over €4m of LauraLynn’s annual running costs were met via fundraised income from a huge variety of donors and supporters. The charity receives no dedicated government funding.
LauraLynn CEO, Orla O’Brien said; “It is fantastic that throughout the year so many people partake in fundraising events, from running the mini-marathon to holding cake sales and raffles, to ensure we can meet the cost of providing healthcare support and palliative care services to children with life-limiting conditions and their families. We begin this year with a fundraising target of €4.6 million which is required to provide care to even more children with life-limiting conditions and their families when they need it the most. We know it is a huge undertaking by our LauraLynn families, supporters, donors, volunteers and employees to fundraise on our behalf every year and I want them to know that their efforts are making a real difference to many, many families throughout the country”.
Since opening in September 2011, LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice has provided specialised hospice care to more than 420 children and their families. LauraLynn provides holistic care to each child which enables them to make the most of every day. This care also extends to the family of each child who are often dealing with difficult emotional, physical and financial pressures. Sam is an 11 year old boy, he has a rare genetic condition causing a range of symptoms that result in him needing round the clock care. Sam is one of almost 170 children availing of LauraLynn and has attended the service for four years. Sam’s mum Therese says; “I don’t know if you will ever understand just what a difference your donation, big or small, has made to Sam and to our lives. Some days can seem hopeless, some days can be good and then there are LauraLynn days. Then we know there is hope”
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our readers for their past support and their continued support into the future.
