Launch of New South Dublin County Council Electric Vehicles

SDCC - New E-Vans

New Electric Council Vehicles were launched recently by the Mayor of South Dublin, Councilor Baby Pereppadan. South Dublin County Council is delighted to add three new electric vehicles to their Fleet.  This is part of SDCC’s Fleet Decarbonisation strategy to achieve its commitment to a 51% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050.

EV’s will assist in the pursuit of achieving these goals and will help to transition the transport requirements of the Council away from traditional methods such as diesel or petrol-powered vans and trucks. Electric Vehicles offer a reduction in air pollution and carbon emissions, promoting sustainability and tackling climate change, whilst offering whole life cost saving.

Two of the vehicles are being assigned to the Dog Control unit, these are replacing older diesel fuelled vans and will support the Dog Warden Service in looking after stray and unwanted dogs and enforcement in relation to the Control of Dogs Act.  They have been purchased with the support of funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Dog Control Support initiative.  The third electric vehicle will support the Active South Dublin programme in delivering its mission to achieve Active and Healthy lifestyles for all in South Dublin and has been partly funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

To achieve its Climate targets, the Council will introduce more electric vehicles and alternative fueled vehicles into the council’s fleet.  The priority will be for vehicles that are fit for purpose and help to reduce emissions and protect the environment.
