Labour Party Selects Cllr. Ciarán Ahern in Dublin South-West

Ciaran Ahern

The Labour Party has selected Councillor Ciarán Ahern as its candidate in Dublin South-West for the upcoming general election.

Ahern is a labour law solicitor and represents Rathfarnham-Templeogue on South Dublin County Council. He was elected to this position in June alongside fellow Labour councillor Pamela Kearns, who together earned nearly 28% of their area’s first-preference votes. This was one of the Labour Party’s strongest showings nationally in the most recent elections.

In a statement, Ahern said “I’d like to thank my family, friends, and party colleagues for their support- it’s an honour to be selected to represent our community and my home in this coming election. I look forward to building on the momentum of our historic local election result, and to advocating strongly for our area in the next Dáil.

South Dublin is a wonderful place facing difficult challenges. Year after year, this government has failed to provide basic public services, and we’re falling behind on targets in housing, climate, cost of living, and hospital trolleys. The Labour Party will always fight for investment in our community from decent, affordable homes to proper public transport to workers’ rights; all the things Dublin needs for a kinder, fairer, and more sustainable future.”

In a statement, Labour Party leader Ivana Bacik said “We’re delighted to have Ciarán represent us in Dublin South-West for this upcoming election. Ciarán is a devoted and dedicated community volunteer, activist, and county councillor, with a strong background in the law, and I’m looking forward to seeing him take on the challenges of national politics. I look forward to campaigning alongside him, both during the election and in Leinster House, for an Ireland that works for all.”
