The Community Foundation for Ireland, one of Ireland’s largest grant making foundations has reached the milestone of €50 million in grant making since the first opened their doors in 2000. The non-profit organisation has made 9,391 grants over the last 19 years, totalling €50 million. In 2018 they made grants totalling over €7.4 million and are set to surpass this figure in 2019. The grant that pushed them over the €50 million milestone was to LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice for €57,000. This grant was to support the LauraLynn at Home service for 6 months.
The Community Foundation for Ireland is part of a network of 1800 community foundations globally. They work with philanthropists who want to provide funding to organisations in Ireland and abroad. Over its lifetime The Community Foundation for Ireland has worked with more than 130 donors and currently has over 70 active Donor Advised Funds. It also currently manages a €45 million endowment fund, which they make grants from in their own right every year.
Orla O’ Brien, CEO of LauraLynn Children’s Hospice commented on the grant they recieved: “We are exceptionally grateful to the donors and to The Community Foundation for Ireland for showing such phenomenal solidarity with the hundreds of children and their families who use our services. Every year LauraLynn must raise €4.3m through public support to allow us to continue to support children with life-limiting conditions and their families as Ireland’s only children’s hospice which is why philanthropic support is so important to us in reaching that target.”
