South Dublin County Council has announced that Ireland’s first purpose-built callisthenics and functional workout area has been installed and opened in Tymon Park, Dublin. The equipment, the first of its kind in Ireland, is specifically designed for competitive callisthenics training and is expected to become very popular with park users. The aim of the installation is to empower people to create healthy habits, allowing them to improve their own physical and mental well-being through exercising in a public park.
Callisthenics is a form of physical training focused on teaching you to master your own bodyweight using minimal equipment. South Dublin County Council also plans to create and promote a range of instructional videos for the equipment that visitors to Tymon Park will be able to access through a QR code located at the workout area.
Cllr Ed O’Brien, Mayor of South Dublin County, said, “It gives me great pleasure to open the new callisthenics and functional workout area in Tymon Park. Public parks are spaces for everyone, for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy. The equipment chosen for the workout area is versatile, multifunctional and is inclusive for all park users. I have no doubt that the facilities on offer here will prove to be very popular with people visiting Tymon Park.”
