There is an urgent need for improved local services according to Lynn Tierney, Local Election. “Several people have told me they are considering moving out of the area as a result of consistently poor investment in local healthcare, disability supports, public transport, and community amenities”.
Ms Tierney, a local candidate with the Social Democrats, highlights: “Healthcare services are under-resourced nationally and this is impacting people locally. The HSE confirmed, when questioned on my behalf, that the Saggart/Citywest/Newcastle Community Health Network, which includes Rathcoole Health Centre, is running with a significant PHN shortage – of 11 positions, 4.2 WTE, or 38%, are vacant. One impact of this is children not receiving developmental checks.
“Our villages are great communities and yet, traffic is becoming unbearable, parents are struggling to find appropriate school places for their children and people feel unheard by the current government parties. Local services have not developed with our population growth, which is well documented by CSO data.
As a resident of Saggart, and candidate in the Clondalkin local electoral area, which includes the “Four Districts” villages of Saggart, Rathcoole, Newcastle and Brittas, Lynn Tierney states she understands the unique challenges faced by residents across the Four Districts, in particular, and pledges to bring a strong local voice to the council. ” I have pushed the council to make improvements for many years, with much success through my efforts, as a dedicated resident. Last year, I made the decision to run for election to South Dublin County Council because I believe our councils needs to better plan for the necessary infrastructure for our communities.
Our area deserves better representation at local and national level of government. Change starts in the community and I will work to ensure our community receives the attention and resources it deserves,” she affirmed.
