Minister for Business, Employment and Retail and local TD Emer Higgins has welcomed news from the National Transport Authority (NTA) that the full W6 bus route is expected to be operational by the end of November 2024, following delays in the widening of the Hazelhatch Bridge.
Minister Higgins said: “This is really great news for commuters! The NTA has informed me that the full W6 route is expected to be operational by the end of November 2024, pending a few final safety checks”.
“While the delays have been frustrating for the local community, especially students and families relying on this service, I’m pleased to see real progress. The W6 route will provide much needed transport links between Newcastle, Hazelhatch, Tallaght, and Maynooth, which will be a huge boost for our area.”
“The NTA had initially planned for a fully connected W6 service, but due to road width issues at the canal bridge, the route has temporarily operated as the W61 and W62. While this wasn’t ideal, it’s still a positive step in providing better connectivity, and I’ll continue to work with the NTA and South Dublin County Council to push for better services,” added Higgins.
“Students from Rathcoole, Saggart, and Newcastle have been eagerly awaiting this service to connect them to Celbridge and Maynooth, and I’m glad we’re moving closer to that goal.
“I will keep pushing for the full delivery of the W6, and I want to thank the community for their patience and understanding as we work towards improving our local transport links,” concluded Minister Higgins.
