Halloween bonfires damage several play spaces

Bonfire Damage Tallaght Playspace

General Election Dublin South West Candidate Cllr Niamh Whelan recently highlighted damage caused by bonfired “Children’s play spaces were damaged by Halloween bonfires in several locations across Tallaght. Kiltalown play space had equipment damaged and a fire lit beside the play area. Pitches in Kiltalown were destroyed by half a dozen large fires”.

Surveying the damage, Cllr Niamh Whelan said: “We need to start thinking outside the box on Halloween. Instead of spending thousands on clean up, the council could organise safe, family friendly events across the county.” “As well as the toxic fumes, green spaces were littered with illegal dumping and neighbours reported fireworks being thrown at them. “We don’t need to destroy amenities to enjoy our Halloween traditions.”
