Griffith College Launch STEAM Bursary for DEIS Schools

Griffith College officially launched its STEAM bursary at its campus on South Circular Road with the help of its partner companies, ambassadors and last year’s recipients.

The €10,000 bursary is designed to improve Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths materials and facilities within DEIS schools across Ireland. Piloted in 2018 in partnership with CPL, three Dublin and two Cork schools were in receipt of financial and experiential gain for its first year. Griffith College welcomed Loreto College Crumlin, St. John’s De La Salle and Kylemore College Ballyfermot to the campus for the launch.

On the day, Griffith College proudly introduced its STEAM ambassadors Founder of Go Girls Go Karting, Irish hockey player and engineer Nicci Daly as well as Griffith College Computing student and Miss Dublin South, Chloe O’Loughlin. The national institution also announced it is officially sponsoring Daly’s Go Girls Go Karting at the launch. Griffith College student and STEAM ambassador Chloe said, “I agreed to be an ambassador for the Griffith College STEAM bursary, because I want to be a positive role model for young people in this industry. I would like to get more young people involved in these subjects, and make a difference in their futures.”

Since its inception, the bursary has attracted partner companies such as Wolfgang, Dogs Patch, CPL, IBEC and Exit Entry.

Griffith College Schools’ Liaison Officer Sinéad O’Callaghan said, “Upon receipt of this financial contribution from Griffith College, the students in the winning schools will be able to further access Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths equipment and experiences.”
