Gig economy workers deserve better

David Gardiner Palmerstown Fonthill

The Workers’ Party has welcomed the announcement of a government review into the gig economy, calling for fair pay, safer conditions and union recognition for workers.

David Gardiner – Workers’ Party Palmerstown-Fonthill said: “Companies like Deliveroo and UberEats class these workers as self-employed or sub-contractors rather than employees to avoid having to treat these workers properly.” “They’re being attacked on the job, they’re having their bikes stolen, they’re earning very low wages while the companies sit back and wipe their hands of the situation.” “We’re calling on the government to recognise these workers as employees and ensure that they receive fair pay and better working conditions. Additionally, the companies should recognise and engage with trade unions representing these workers.”
