Foster puppies from Dogs Trust, Ireland’s largest dog welfare charity recently repaid their foster family’s kindness and assisted in a very romantic marriage proposal.
Pregnant Rosie, a one-year-old crossbreed, arrived into the charity’s care and was fostered by Alicia and Dave in February. She was with them less than a week when she gave birth to eight beautiful, healthy puppies.
As the couple opened their hearts and their home to Rosie and her pups, Dave thought it was only right that they were involved in him popping the big question to girlfriend Alicia. Dave secretly printed off a “Will you marry me” sign and managed to get the eight little rascals all in one place before getting down on one knee.
In even better news, it wasn’t just Dave that Alicia said yes to! Now that the puppies have all found their forever homes, the couple have decided to adopt Rosie after falling in love with her gentle and affectionate ways.
Alicia and Dave explained: “Caring for the puppies for their first eight weeks was a unique and special experience. It was amazing to watch them grow and develop their own individual personalities. We are thrilled that they played such an important part in our engagement and we are delighted that Dogs Trust have found wonderful homes for them. Fostering is such a rewarding experience and we would highly recommend it to others.”
Samantha Fogarty, Fostering Co-ordinator at Dogs Trust Ireland continued: “While it might sound like amazing fun to foster a mum and her puppies, it takes a huge amount of time, dedication and cleaning to look after them. We couldn’t be more grateful to Alicia and David, and to know our puppies played a part in their marriage proposal makes us very proud indeed.”
While Dogs Trust has rehomed over 220 dogs so far this year, they do still have a small number of dogs who are looking for quite particular foster homes so, the charity are seeking experienced dog owners, who do not have children or any other pets in their home.
