Final Call for Environmental Champions Across Ireland to Enter Repak’s 10th Annual Pakman Awards

Pakman Awards 2022

Environmental heroes, this is your final call! Repak is delighted to announce that the deadline for entries to the 2024 Pakman Awards has been extended by one week, now closing on 6th September 2024. This extension offers more time for those still working on their submissions to perfect their entries.

Marking a decade of recognising outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability, the Pakman Awards highlight the achievements of businesses, community groups, and individuals across Ireland. This year’s awards are especially significant, with the introduction of two new categories: Best Deposit Return Initiative, which acknowledges the impact of Ireland’s new deposit return scheme, and Best Single Use Plastic Initiative, celebrating efforts to minimise the use of single-use plastics.

Over the past ten years, the Pakman Awards have earned a reputation as the leading environmental accolades in Ireland, honouring those who go above and beyond in their recycling and waste management efforts. In 2023, the awards introduced the ESG Leader category, with Sian Young from Britvic being the inaugural winner for her exceptional contributions. The Overall Pakman Award last year went to The Killarney Park & The Ross for their groundbreaking work in making Killarney Ireland’s first town to phase out single-use coffee cups, setting a powerful example in circular economy practices.

This year, thirteen categories will be awarded including the ESG Leader Award, Environmental Education and Community Initiative Award, the Plastic Pledge Award, and the Business Recycling Champion Award.

Entrants are encouraged to submit their initiatives and projects that have made a difference in the last twelve months. Full details on how to enter and information about each category can be found at https://pakmanawards.repak.ie.

The winners will be announced at the highly anticipated awards ceremony on the 24th October 2024, at The Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin.

Speaking on this year’s tenth annual Pakman Awards, Zoë Kavanagh, CEO of Repak, said:

“This year marks a significant milestone for Repak as we launch the 10th annual Pakman Awards, introducing two new categories: Best Deposit Return Initiative Award and Best Single Use Plastic Initiative Award. The Best Single Use Plastic Initiative Award highlights efforts to reduce the impact of single-use plastics, while the Best Deposit Return Initiative Award celebrates the achievements from the initiatives implemented across the country since the launch of the scheme earlier this year.

“We invite all businesses, organisations, individuals, and community groups to enter this year’s awards and share their progress in creating a more sustainable Ireland. Over the past decade, we have received thousands of applications from organisations dedicated to promoting best practices in recycling. Their achievements and innovative approaches have continually impressed us. We eagerly anticipate this year’s entries and look forward to showcasing the remarkable efforts of businesses, community groups, and individuals across the country.”

The 2024 Pakman Awards are currently open for entries and will now close on 6th September 2024. More information can be found at Pakman Awards on Facebook, @PakmanAwards on LinkedIn, and https://pakmanawards.repak.ie
