Fáilte Ireland launches new ‘Winter in Dublin’ programme for capital city

Winter in Dublin

Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin TD and Fáilte Ireland recently announced ‘Winter in Dublin’ a new programme of events and experiences taking place across Dublin city and supported by Dublin City Council between October 2021 and February 2022.

The Winter in Dublin programme is designed to attract visitors to the city and will feature comedy, live music, theatre, literary festivals, and exhibitions and is bolstered around several flagship event series1 such as Halloween, a Live in the City event programme, the Festive season, Tradfest in January, and a new festival for the city in February to be announced soon.

A full line up of events can be found at www.visitdublin.ie.

The programme is supported by a €500,000 national multi-channel advertising campaign which will run across print, radio and digital to promote the events along with the many compelling reasons to visit Dublin. Winter in Dublin is a collaborative programme between Fáilte Ireland, local authorities, public bodies, representative organisations, and industry partners.

Speaking about the programme, The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Alison Gilliland said:

“I’m delighted to support the ‘Winter in Dublin’ programme. From ‘Winter Lights’ to ‘Tradfest’ there’s plenty on offer for everyone. So come on into town, meet up with friends, enjoy our cultural spaces, savour some good food, maybe do a bit of shopping and let’s banish the winter blues together!”

Speaking at the announcement today in Dublin Castle, Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin TD said:

“Dublin is renowned for its culture and vibrancy so I very much welcome this programme from Fáilte Ireland that will help to reinvigorate the capital over the winter months. Festivals and events will play a key role in rebooting tourism in 2022 and the investment announced in the recent budget underlines the Government’s commitment to supporting this part of the sector. The Winter in Dublin programme and supporting advertising campaign will be crucial in reminding people of the wide range of events, entertainment and experiences on offer in Dublin and will help to drive much needed footfall and spend into the shoulder season.”

To help tourism businesses and event organisers leverage the campaign, Fáilte Ireland has developed a Campaign Activation Guide which provides businesses with a downloadable suite of Winter in Dublin branded assets. In addition, businesses with events taking place in Dublin during this time can submit their events to be featured on VisitDublin.ie. Paul Kelly, Fáilte Ireland CEO said:

“Festivals and events are a proven motivator for visitors to travel that provide a specific timeframe to visit locations. Through our work with the Dublin Destination Recovery Taskforce2, Fáilte Ireland is very much aware of the challenges facing Dublin tourism businesses due to the pandemic and the Winter in Dublin programme captures the wide breath of events and activities on offer to visitors throughout the city over the coming months. From cultural events and live music to fantastic food and shopping, there’s always something exciting on in the capital. Winter in Dublin is the perfect opportunity to showcase the great activities happening over the coming months. To find out the latest not to be missed events in the calendar go to VisitDublin.ie”
