New recruits must restore Garda Numbers in Rathcoole Garda Station

Local T.D. John Curran has welcomed the news that following pressure from his party, there is increased funding for Garda numbers in Budget 2020. It was announced that funding for An Garda Síochána will be increased by €81m, which will deliver up to 700 new Garda recruits. Deputy Curran said : “Boosting Garda numbers to 15,000 by 2021 was a key demand of Fianna Fáil in forming a Confidence and Supply Arrangement with Fine Gael. We are proud that Budget 2020 has again ensured sustained Garda recruitment, making strides towards ensuring the force is supported by the necessary personnel. “This Budget will allow 700 new gardai to be recruited, and the employment of civilian staff in An Garda Síochana will increase in order to allow the transfer of members of the force from administrative roles to direct policing duties.” I will continue to call for these additional recruits to be deployed in the DMR West Division and to specifically target the area of Rathcoole so as to restore the number of Gardaí to this rapidly growing populated area,” concluded Deputy Curran.
