The first round of funding under THRIVE, the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme will support the regeneration and rejuvenation of Lucan, a local TD has said. Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail and local TD Emer Higgins said: “Minister of State for Local Government and Planning at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Alan Dillon TD announced the €5M being awarded to 26 towns all over Ireland.
“I was very pleased to see that Lucan has been included. As a party Fine Gael understands that communities are the backbone of our country, and their development is at the heart of this funding. Lucan is already a wonderful place to live work and visit, and with this funding we can make it even better. THRIVES main goal is to give citizens and local authorities a chance to reimagine their town centres by renovating and reusing vacant or derelict heritage buildings and eventually bringing them back into use.
“Walking the streets of Lucan, you see these once loved spaces lying vacant. This funding will ensure they can be rejuvenated to benefit the community again. “This is just the initial tranche of funding under THRIVE, awarded under Ireland’s two European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Regional Programmes. This first injection of capital will facilitate the development and enhancement of integrated urban strategies, using a Town Centre First Approach. “This will help South Dublin County Council to determine the right projects for Lucan and ensure they are ready to begin capital works.
“The funding is further evidence of how Fine Gael is delivering for Dublin and in Government, collaborating to come up with innovative ways of making the areas where we live, work, shop and socialise better. “For Lucan this is an exciting time. I think we all very much look forward to seeing projects come to fruition,” Minister Higgins concluded.
