The National Health Capital Plan for 2021 will see €170,000 designated for vital reconfiguration works at Peamount Hospital in Newcastle. Dublin Mid-West’s Fine Gael TD, Emer Higgins has welcomed the announcement and the allocated funding for the Hospital, which will benefit patients with intellectual disabilities.

“I really welcome this funding for Peamount Hospital which will allow them to reconfigure their existing high dependency unit for older patients with intellectual disabilities. “The covid-19 pandemic has changed the operation of our hospitals and ensuring they can be run in an environment that is safe for staff and patients is paramount.

“This funding will allow Peamount Hospital to reconfigure their existing multi occupancy space for older patients with intellectual disabilities into a mixture of one-bed and two bed occupancy rooms to allow for the necessary social distancing while still caring for fifteen patients in this unit. “Our health care workers have made phenomenal sacrifices and worked incredibly hard throughout this pandemic and I’m delighted to see that we are continuing to invest in our health service and allocate funding where its needed. I hope that this funding for Peamount will further improve the provision of care for patients while allowing staff to do their job safely.
