After a two-year postponement due to the worldwide pandemic, the fifth Dublin Choral Festival takes place this year on Saturday, 22 June 2022, at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin at 8 pm. The theme is Faith, Love, Song & Light and features a programme of classical, contemporary, and Celtic works from European and North American composers. The programme follows a theme of spirituality and love that carries us through the dark times until we finally remerge into the light.
Over 120 singers aged 16- 75 from five American choirs will perform in the hallowed halls of St Patrick’s Cathedral alongside Dublin’s Kaleidoscope Ensemble. The American singers from Arizona, Nevada, and Wyoming have come together to perform at this year’s Dublin Choral Festival to support the work of the Irish Hospice Foundation.
It will be the first time the choirs have sung together. However, they will have rehearsed the songs with their own conductors before all blending into a single chorus for this performance, under the direction of Dr. Edith A. Copley, the Director of Choral Studies at Northern Arizona University.
In addition, the singers will be accompanied by local musicians from Dublin’s Kaleidoscope Ensemble, who have featured in all of the previous Dublin Choral Festivals.
This evening of choral delights includes works by composers including Charles Wood, Michael McGlynn, Dan Forrest, Desmond Earley, Ola Gjeilo, Marta Keen, Rene Clausen, Shawn Kirshner and others. The concert will be conducted by Dr Edith A. Copley, Director of Choral Studies at Northern Arizona University where she conducts the Shrine of the Ages Choir and teaches conducting and graduate choral literature. Choirs under her direction have performed at numerous choral conferences in Carnegie Hall and have toured internationally
