A Limerick-based charity that supports people with Down Syndrome has received a €1,500 donation from the team at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Dublin. Down Syndrome Limerick, which is a regional branch of Down Syndrome Ireland, works to provide social, education and development activities for families and individuals with Down Syndrome throughout their life. The charity offers services such as therapy, parent support, school support and adult employment to enrich the lives of individuals with Down Syndrome and provide guidance for the people supporting them.

The donation from Amazon in Dublin will go towards providing over 100 hours of classroom support for Adult Learners with Down syndrome who attend the adult education course, which helps to improve the skills required for the world of work.

Darragh Kelly, General Manager at Amazon in Dublin, said “Down Syndrome Limerick creates opportunities for people with Down Syndrome to help them achieve their full potential through a safe and supportive environment. Everyone at Amazon in Dublin hopes this donation contributes to continued support for those who benefit from the charity’s services.”

Michelle Coughlan, Chairperson at Down Syndrome Limerick, said “As we are a self-funded charity and run on a voluntary basis, the majority of our funding is through donations and fundraisers. Donations like this make such a difference and we’d like to say a big thank you to Darragh and the team at Amazon in Dublin for this support.”

The donation to Down Syndrome Limerick was made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities in and around its operating locations in Ireland. Since opening its doors in 2022, the Dublin fulfilment centre has supported many community organisations locally, with donations totalling over €53,000. Charities supported by the team at the fulfilment centre include Cliona’s Foundation, Jigsaw and LauraLynn Children’s Hospice.
