A local Day Centre in Firhouse run by the Central Remedial Clinic has just won the Day Centre of the Year Category in the Irish Healthcare Centre Awards at a gala award night held in the Ballsbridge Hotel on 27th September. Run for over 20 years by Manager Breda Gavagan, the Firhouse CRC Centre has been a feature of local life for a long time now, providing daily respite and activities for over 40 adults with a physical disability. The nomination for the award detailed the wide range of meaningful activities available, the quality of the staff, some of the community-based projects undertaken by the people who attend the centre and the huge positive impact the centre has had on so many lives over the last 25 years. Speaking at the gala ceremony after accepting the award, delighted centre manager Breda described how the success of the centre was a credit to the outstanding staff team who work closely with clients attending the centre to make sure that their wishes are at the heart of how the centre is run, and thanked everyone for their contribution to the centre including the many local people who have volunteered their time over the years, making sure that the centre is firmly embedded in the local Firhouse community.
At the same event the high standard of healthcare service provision in Tallaght shone out as many other local organisations won in categories of their own, including Kiltipper Woods Care Centre, several departments of Tallaght University Hospital, and the HSE and Jobstown Community, with many more local groups and organisations shortlisted as finalists in a wide variety of other categories. All told, a good night for the community of Tallaght and a great result for Firhouse CRC.
