Councillor accuses ESB of dragging their heels

Mark Ward William Carey

Cllr William Carey has accused the ESB of dragging their heels when it comes to providing connections to various infrastructural projects. “Time after time I am being told by council management that projects are being delayed because of the need for electrical connections to project’s ” said Cllr Carey.

Cllr Carey was reacting to information supplied by SDCC at the July council meeting. In response to a question put down by Cllr Carey the manager listed 14 projects under traffic management such as pedestrian crossings etc. Of the 14 only 3 had had been connected and 11 where awaiting attention from the ESB. Many of these relate to pedestrian safety such as signal crossings on main routes throughout the county.

Cllr Carey added, “I had fought for 5 years to have a pedestrian crossing installed on Fonthill Rd junction with St Johns estate following the death here of a local woman, and after finally seeing it come to fruition it remains inoperable after the structural work was completed 6 months ago. This is shocking and is putting the lives of pedestrians at continuous risk with these delays.
