Two prizewinning artworks, entered by Dublin students Siìobhra O’Reardon Farrell and Sara Jagodzinska, are amongst 13 artworks selected from the archives to illustrate the 2021 Texaco Children’s Art Competition Calendar just published. Amongst artworks drawn from the past 16 years of the Competition, Siìobhra won third prize in the 12-13 years age category for her portrait of Blur frontman ‘Damon Albarn’ in the 60th year of the Competition, held in 2014, as a pupil at Colaìiste Briìde, Clondalkin. Siìobhra went on to achieve further success the following year, winning a special merit award for her portrait of Noel Gallagher, again in the 12-13 years age category of the Competition.

Having fostered an interest in art from a young age, Síobhra completed her Leaving Certificate last year and is now continuing to develop her artistic skills as a student of Costume and Design at Inchicore College of Further Education. Sara won third prize in the 9-11 years age category for her work entitled ‘Midnight Swim!’ in the 64th year of the Competition, held in 2018, as a pupil at Scoil Mhuire National School, Lucan. Appearing in the Calendar during the months of February and December respectively, Siìobhra and Sara’s works will be seen in thousands of homes throughout Ireland during the coming year.

Commenting, a Competition adjudicator said that the artworks “perfectly reflect the artistic talent and creativity that many young people in Ireland possess and the essential role schools play by encouraging and inspiring their students through art education”. Calendars are currently available through a select number of Texaco service stations and Texaco branded distributors countrywide and through Texoil, Valero’s own home heating oil division.
