Clondalkin deserves it’s own community centre, that’s according to local Councillor and General Election candidate, Emer Higgins.
“The Council is caught up in what seems like a never-ending legal battle to deliver a new community centre for Clondalkin on Orchard Road. This facility was promised over a decade ago. At last revised legal documentation is being finalised between the Council and Kelland Homes so that ownership of the building can be transferred to the Council. I’ve worked cross-party on this with former Councillors Breda Bonner and Tony Delaney, and current Councillors including Trevor Gilligan and Eoin O’Brion to keep the pressure on the Council to progress this,” said Cllr. Emer Higgins.
“At last it seems like we are making progress and Councillors have now voted to include funding of €110,000 under the Capital Programme Budget (2020-2022) to assist with fit-out costs. The plan is for the centre to be used primarily to cater for the needs of active groups in the Clondalkin area, in particular senior citizens and it will be a fantastic addition to the community of Clondalkin,” concluded Cllr. Emer Higgins.
