South Dublin City Council received a prestigious Green Flag Award for Corkagh Park, Clondalkin at an awards ceremony in Malahide Castle recently.
The Green Flag Award is an international quality benchmark that recognises and rewards the provision of good quality parks and green spaces. Established in more than 50 countries, the award scheme is administered in the Republic of Ireland by An Taisce and rates the management of parks by local authorities across six criteria including safety, cleanliness, conservation, community involvement and sustainability.
Corkagh Park is one of 36 public parks from across the country to achieve a Green Flag award in 2017. Parks are judged against acknowledged international best practice and standards on a number of criteria including cleanliness, horticultural standards, community involvement, sustainability and providing a warm welcome.
The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Paul Gogarty welcomed the news saying: “I am delighted that Corkagh Park has deservedly been awarded a Green Flag. This award celebrates and reflects the commitment and skill of our staff who work hard to make sure that our parks are a pleasure to visit all year round”.
Cllr. Ed O’Brien, along with staff from the Public Realm Section, attended the ceremony and welcomed the award.
