The 17th of May 2020 saw the Committee for the Commemoration of Irish Famine Victims (CCIFV) in a low key ceremony due to Covid-19 restrictions, commemorate the Irish Famine Victims.
In response to the a recent letter sent to The President, Taoiseach, T.D.’s and political figures, Tallaght group CCIFV confirmed in advance that on the 17th of May 2020, there would be a commemoration in Stephen’s Green which would not be open to the public.
Going forward, the third Sunday in May will be the designated day and a permanent fixture in the annual calendar.
Michael Blanch concluded “It has also been confirmed that with one years advance notice which hasn’t happened in 12 years of the National Famine Commemoration Day, the 2021 event will take place in Buncrana”.
