TD Emer Higgins has said that the National Transport Authority must act to ensure that new estates in Lucan such as Shakleton, Gandon Park and Hallwell do not remain disconnected from Bus Connects. In response, the NTA has confirmed to Deputy Higgins that they are actively seeking to extend to the C2 bus route to Shackleton Drive as soon as possible.
Deputy Emer Higgins escalated her concerns around the new Bus Connects route to the NTA, stressing the immediate need to extend the C2 bus route as promised. Deputy Higgins said: “Recently Bus Connects came into operation in Lucan. While we welcome the increased frequency, better connections and new 24 hour service there are issues that need to be ironed out. In particular, people are really anxious that the C2 be extended to more of Adamstown as soon as possible and I welcome the NTA’s action on this matter.
“Following my correspondence with the NTA, I am glad that they have confirmed that they are focused on expediting the delivery of the C2 to Shackleton as soon as possible. “The NTA have confirmed that they are anxious to secure the operation of route C2 along Shackleton Drive as soon as possible and they will shortly be meeting with the developers of Shackleton in an effort to expedite the delivery of a suitable bus terminus/ turning point at this location.
“While this does appear to be a priority for them, I am informed that in the event that the timescales for the provision of a terminus or turning point are too long they will look at alternative options to serve the area in the interim,” added Deputy Higgins. “I know this is a matter of great importance for commuters living in these area and I will be keeping the pressure on the NTA to deliver this,” concluded Deputy Higgins.
