The Mill: Creative Workshops in Clondalkin – Call for Participants
Led by writer Nathan O’Donnell, The Mill is a workshop-based project for young people in Clondalkin. This programme of weekly creative workshops will take place over June and July 2018, producing material for a radical magazine, to be published in the Autumn.
This programme, running over six consecutive Fridays, is free to attend. It is open to young people (16-20) from all backgrounds – whether in education or not – living in the Clondalkin area. Please get in touch to reserve a place. You must be able to attend all six weekly sessions, Fridays 15 June – 20 July 2018, from 11am to 2pm. Further satellite events/activities/tours will also be programmed. Places are limited so early booking is strongly advised.
Over the course of the six weeks, participants will take part in writing, photography and journalism exercises, as well as getting hands-on experience with letterpress and other forms of printing, and learning about the history of paper, publishing, and print in Ireland.
The Mill is inspired by the Clondalkin Paper Mill and the legacy of the strikes and occupations of the 1980s. The programme is designed to respond to the environment of Clondalkin; participants will be encouraged to think about place, community, and activism. The resulting radical magazine, designed by Clare Bell, will be published in Autumn 2018.
The Mill is commissioned under IN CONTEXT 4 – IN OUR TIME, South Dublin County Council’s Public Art Programme for 2016-2019 under the Per Cent for Art Scheme.
