DCT United was set up by a group of like-minded friends with the idea stemming from the COVID-19 lockdown, founding member Joe Lumumba explained. “Many of us were finding the lockdown tough, we didn’t see each other, and with many of us working from home, everyone was dealing with their own set of challenges, and we needed to find a way to reconnect through our love of sport,” adds Joe. The group of friends has one main objective with the creation of the new team, and that is “to create a positive environment that harbours both positive mental, and physical benefits”, adds Joe Lumumba.
The ethos is similarly shared by DCT United sponsors Digital Construction Technologies Group Founder and CEO, Joseph Mady. “For men in their 30s and 40s meeting new friends and staying fit can be a challenge combined with balancing a career and family life can seem daunting. We hope that with DCT United we create a positive and open environment for men from all backgrounds to meet once a week. We are delighted to be backing this initiative and are looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labor, in the shape of a trophy at some stage” adds Joseph Mady, CEO of Digital Construction Technologies Group.
The over 35s league is scheduled to start in February with training kicking off in the new year. Most matches will happen on Friday evenings, a favourable time for players who may have family commitments on the weekends. The initiative is supported by South Dublin County Council sports officer, Ian Farrell and Tallaght Person of the Year, Lee Moroney who both attended today’s launch. “DCT United is offering a great service to our community during a time when it is needed more than ever. I wish the team the best of luck in the season ahead, I might even dust off the football boots myself”, says Moroney.
“South Dublin County Sports Partnership are delighted to support this initiative. We are very keen on how inclusive they are making the club for men to get involved in playing a sport again. We are supporting this club with the necessary equipment needed to start up a new team,” added Farrell.
