Griffith College’s Schools Liaison Officer Sinead O’Callaghan offers some advice to those moving towards the mock exams

This experience can be a huge learning tool in preparation for the State Examinations in June. It’s an occasion to familiarise yourself with the layout of the papers, to practice time management in the examination and to understand how you’ll manage the format of sitting exams one day after another for two consecutive weeks.

The Leaving Cert will require stamina to perform at your best for two weeks it seriously can help you prepare for the real thing. Look at it as the league game in preparation for the championship or the driving lesson before the test. The “Pre’s” can be an opportunity to measure your performance in each subject. This will be helpful if you’re considering changing levels in a subject or when you calculate your pre results and equate them to points.

From this, you’ll know where you stand academically and realise if you need to invest a few more hours into a certain subject. If you’re aiming for certain points the pre exams will be a vital indicator for you. The great realisation at this point will be that you’ve still got time. There’s still time in Spring to study, work hard and make that final effort for June.

It’s also worth being aware of alternative options such as Colleges of Further Education or Private Colleges namely Griffith College. Both are educational pathways to consider at this time as the entry requirements may be more attainable for students.
