17th Annual IPB Pride of Place Awards

The winners of the 17th annual IPB Pride of Place Awards in association with Co-operation Ireland were announced on Saturday the 30th of November at a Gala Awards Ceremony in the Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny. Pride of Place is an all-Island competition that acknowledges the high-quality work that communities are doing all over the Island of Ireland. Each year Local Authorities from across the Island of Ireland have the opportunity to nominate up to a maximum of five groups in their area, who they believe have made an outstanding contribution to supporting and strengthening their local community.

In 2019, South Dublin County Council nominated Community Groups in four of the Award categories, with all nominated projects putting in a fantastic effort and impressing the Judges when they visited the County back in June: Category 5, Populations over 5000: Lucan Village.  Category 7, Community Wellbeing Initiative: Fettercairn Community Health Project. Category 8, Age Friendly Initiative: Clondalkin Men’s Shed and Category 11, Urban Neighbourhoods/Villages: Firhouse Community Hub – Firhouse Community.

All the effort paid off and it was met with great delight to discover on Saturday night, that Fettercairn Community Health Project scooped Runner Up in the Community Wellbeing Initiative Category and Firhouse Community Hub – Firhouse Community picked up Runner Up in the Urban Neighbourhood/Villages Category. The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Vicki Casserly said, ‘I would like to pay tribute to our wonderful entrants, for all they have achieved and their continuous efforts to showcase our towns and villages as best places to live, work and recreate. Community participation is the heart and pride of our County’. South Dublin County Council would like to pass on a huge thanks and congratulate all four community projects that represented the County in this year’s competition, their efforts and achievements done both their local communities and the entire County proud.
