Local sports clubs and facilities have scored big in a new round of capital sports funding from Government, according to Dublin South West Independent Minister, Katherine Zappone. Over €167,000 in grants is being provided in Templeogue, Kilnamanagh and Firhouse. Minister Zappone says sport is the lifeblood of our local communities – it improves the quality of life for people of all ages – and needs continued Government support.
Welcoming the latest funding Minister Zappone added: “Throughout Dublin South West volunteers, youth leaders and community workers are delivering a wide range of sports and activities which boost health and well-being. This invaluable work needs support and funding. The Government is now backing three important projects. Grasp Martial Arts in Firhouse are receiving a safe sport grant of €4,300. Templeogue College Swimming Pool is getting €49,500 for new equipment and
Local people have campaigned hard to secure these grants and I want to congratulate all now that their efforts have successful. There is of course a continued need for further investment. As an Independent Minister I continue to highlight this need and encourage Government to provide more in terms of grants. In Templeogue, Tallaght and Citywest we have access to a wide range of sports facilities and green areas where people can exercise. However this most never be taken for granted and support must continue not just for new infrastructure but also for upgrades and improvements of those which already exist.”
