South Dublin’s Women in Business Take Time Out for NEWS BBQ & Workshop
Councillor Emer Higgins has congratulated the Local Enterprise Office on holding a summer BBQ and style advice workshop for business women. The event was run through the South Dublin Local Enterprise Office’s women in business initiative, NEWS, in Kingswood House Hotel. The guest speaker was Laura Jordan, Director of Style Savvy.
“It was great to see so many local business women taking time out to come together to enjoy a fabulous summer BBQ in gorgeous weather. It proved the perfect networking opportunity. Guest speaker Laura Jordan told her own story of utilising the Local Enterprise Office supports to build her successful enterprise and shared with us some of her top tips for looking stylish in the office. It was a lovely occasion and I’d like to congratulate Amanda, Sandra and Lorna and the team on another successful event,” said Cllr. Emer Higgins who attended.
“Outside of the Council, I work in business myself as a leader in a multinational corporation. I’ve always been a big advocate of women in business. I think events like this and networks like NEWS go a long way towards leveling the playing field for women. The gender pay gap in Ireland is said to still be at 14%, so there’s a long way to go in terms of creating a truly inclusive business culture nationally. The Programme for Government sets out a clear commitment to reduce the gender pay gap and Cabinet has just recently approved the General Scheme of the Gender Pay Gap Information Bill, I think this is really welcome progress,” concluded Cllr. Emer Higgins who is standing for General Election for Fine Gael.
