Shocking shortcomings in dental services for children

Cllr Teresa Costello

Fianna Fáil general election candidate, Cllr Teresa Costello has said there is a huge shortcoming of dental services for children in her constituency.

Cllr Costello says that the Old County Road dental clinics will not be seeing children until they are in second year in secondary school, which Costello believes is a huge shortcoming for children’s dental health.

“Kids dental health is so important. It is part of keeping our children mindful of good oral hygiene and equally, if any work needs to be done on their teeth. “I think this is a shocking decision and one that I feel very passionately about. This decision needs to be evaluated and reversed as soon as possible.

Costello stated she has spoken to people whose children have had to wait to get seals done, and this just simply can’t be allowed to continue. “I have spoken to people on the doors whose children have had to wait to get seals done on their teeth. This should have happened between the ages of 8-12, but they are currently being told they must wait until they’re 13 or 14?” she said. “Dental services and dental care are so important for the development of children, we cannot allow neglection of their dental health development in any way.”
