Elderly constituents feel cut off and isolated because of bus routes

Cllr Teresa Costello

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor and General Election candidate, Teresa Costello, has called for amendments to bus routes across her constituency that are affecting constituents.

Costello has said she has encountered lots of elderly constituents raising this on the doors throughout her campaign, and amendments need to be made with those constituents to the forefront of the thinking.

“Bus routes occupying Rathfarnham, Willington Avenue, Osprey, and Rushbrook to name a few are currently not feasible, especially for our elderly constituents.

Costello stated that people on these routes are being made to get a second bus to get into town to visit a friend or family, and that is a nuisance for constituents. It also isn’t feasible for elderly constituents.

“This problem has been highlighted to me numerous times along the canvass trail. Constituents along these bus routes have had to take two buses to get into town. This is an inconvenience and could end up deterring a lot of our elderly constituents from doing their errands.

“Some of my constituents look forward to running their few errands every week and is very much the highlight of their week being able to get out of the house.

“These constituents feel cut off, they feel isolated, and this simply cannot be the case.

“I am calling on Dublin Bus and Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan to seek solutions to this matter as a matter of urgency.
