Sinn Féin are launching two candidates for Dublin South-West in the upcoming General Election. Longtime representative Deputy Sean Crowe will be joined on the ticket by Cllr Niamh Whelan. Members from across Dublin attended the event in Killinarden Community Centre which was chaired by Lynn Boylan, MEP for Dublin.

Sean Crowe was first elected to South Dublin Council in 1999 and scooped a seat in the Dáil in 2002. He is a familiar face to residents across Dublin South-West and topped the poll by a significant margin in 2020. Cllr Niamh Whelan has been active in her community for years and landed a council seat in this years’ local elections. The pair have worked together for years, managing constituency cases and lobbying for greater services in health and housing.

In his speech to the gathered supporters, Deputy Crowe outlined the need for a change of Government, saying “This community has been underserved for years in housing, in mental health provision and in access to supports for children with additional needs. “Sinn Fein have fully costed plans and now we need a mandate – it’s up to us to get out there and show people that these policies will work for them.”

Cllr Niamh Whelan outlined her vision for her community “My priority if elected is to tackle the massive failings of this Government in housing, in health, particularly mental health, in childcare, and in the cost of living. We are a wealthy country and yet so many are not being served by this Government” “Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have had 100 years to run this country and they have failed vulnerable communities. We have over 14,000 homeless including thousands of children and this was a result of deliberate political decisions. No one carries the blame for that except our current Government. Sinn Féin want to change that. “I’m from this community, I live and work here and I want to offer a better, fairer Ireland for me, my family, my neighbours.”
