Art lovers are set to experience a rare chance to see pristine prints of Andy Warhol’s iconic Marilyn series when Art Source opens its doors at the RDS next month.
More than 15,000 people are expected to attend Ireland’s largest and most exciting art fair from November 15-17.
Art Source features a huge selection of affordable art as well as a wide range of pieces from some of the biggest names in the art world, making it an unmissable event for art lovers.
The Warhol prints, which have been created from the original factory negatives and are appearing courtesy of Merrion Gallery, provide a chance for the Irish public to see them as they would have appeared in their original run.
In 1967, Warhol began work on his now iconic Marilyn series following the death of screen icon Marilyn Monroe.
Unfortunately, due to the printing techniques and paper Warhol used in the 1960s, it is rare to find an unscathed original 1967 Marilyn today.
Thankfully for art lovers everywhere, Warhol printing collaborators Sunday B Morning released an additional two runs of the series in 1970.
These prints were created using the original factory photo negatives and are in every way identical to the original Factory Additions series.
Five of these images will feature at Art Source, along with Warhol’s iconic Soup Can and Dollar Sign prints.
“Over the past number of years we have seen that the Irish public have shown an enormous appetite for art, and Art Source has become a major destination for buyers who are interested in art from some of the world’s most recognisable artists” said show organiser, Patrick O’Sullivan.
“As a reflection of that demand, this will be the biggest Art Source to date.
“The reason the Fair is growing so much is that Irish people are interested in art and culture at heart, and many people make a point of returning to the fair annually.
“The fair also offers visitors the opportunity to purchase one-off original artworks to make their home unique and also the opportunity to meet the artists and find out about their work.
“The event is where the industry meets to see what is going on in the Irish art world, and this year is our biggest yet, with the widest range of art styles anywhere in Ireland.”
Art Source opens on Friday, November 15 at 11am, and runs until November 17.
