This year, the local elections will take place on Friday June 7th. On this date, voters will decide who to elect as councillors for their local area.
Local Election Candidate, Lynn Tierney, is urging all residents to make sure they are registered to vote before the registration closing date of May 20th. “I encourage residents to register to vote. It is important that you have your say in who is elected to represent you on South Dublin County Council. The council has responsibility for planning, public spaces, community spaces, roads maintenance, environmental protection, fire services and much more and the decisions that are made will impact your day to day experiences of living in our villages.”
The electoral divisions of Rathcoole, Newcastle and Saggart (which includes Brittas) are within the Clondalkin Local Electoral Area, which has 7 seats on South Dublin County Council.
“I also want to highlight to all residents, over the age of 18, that if you live in the local area, and are ordinarily resident in Ireland, you can register to vote in the local elections, regardless of citizenship. I find that people are sometimes surprised to learn that people of all nationalities have the opportunity to vote in the local elections.”
“I would like to see the villages of the Four Districts better represented on South Dublin County Council as none of the current elected reps live in those 4 villages. Local representation is important and as a dedicated resident of Saggart and the Four Districts, I want to ensure that the priorities of residents in those villages are consistently on the council’s agenda.”
